Hop across the water to La Gomera, Tenerife's wild, green neighbour, on a full-day tour by fast ferry and bus. The crossing from Los Cristianos takes about 50 minutes to San Sebastián, the island's capital.
From there you'll drive up through the lush Hermigua valley into Garajonay National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site blanketed in ancient laurel forest that dates back millions of years, where mist drifts between giant ferns and twisted trees. You'll also hear locals demonstrate Silbo Gomero, the island's astonishing whistled language, and stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
A full day out, so bring a light jacket for the cooler, misty highlands and comfortable walking shoes.
